Borusan Holdings' Ali Ahmet Kocabiyik has a passion for classical music; hence the founding of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic in 1999. The Istanbul players have already been to the Proms in London, a platform that's hitherto eluded either of RTÉ's orchestras. Under Viennese conductor Sascha Goetzel, they present the orientally infused pieces in colours that are warm, detailed and delicate, with the narrative of Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade allowed to unfold in a relaxed manner. There are discreet added contributions by oud and qanun, and local instruments feature even more prominently in movements from Ippolitov Ivanov's Caucasian Sketches. Erkin's 1943 Köçekçe provides local classical flavour. url.ie/dzi7
