Button Factory, Dublin Tonight 22.50 01-6709202
Apocalypse Now’s first monthly party in their year- long countdown to the end of the Mayan calendar features a visit from a man whose sets occasionally sound like the end of the world. It’s the Axis 20th anniversary tour that brings Jeff Mills (below) to town, but you don’t really need an excuse to check out the former architect who turned his hands to producing and playing dark, influential, futuristic sonic designs for life.
One of electronic music’s most forward-thinking innovators, Mills has recalibrated the Detroit blueprint over the years by accentuating the more cosmic and atmospheric hues in the sound. Aside from celebrating two decades of his Axis label, 2012 will also see Mills touring a new album, Messenger.
Support tonight from Will Kinsella, who will play a live set. The next Apocalypse bash will feature Industrialyzer on February 24th.
