Button Factory, Dublin Tonight 11pm €10 01-6709202
It’s a Minus night all the way at this month’s Apocalypse Now, as the organisers continue their countdown to the end of the Mayan calendar with Matador and Ambivalent.
Dublin audiences will be already familiar with Matador, the nom de plume of producer, DJ and engineer Gavin Lynch. Lynch has been a fixture on the city scene for a couple of years through appearances at nights such as 515 and Mixed Salad. Minus is not Lynch’s first label hook-up, having already released twisted, raw techno for Perc Trax, Harthouse and Coocon before the Kingswing and Spooks EPs saw Richie Hawtin give him a Minus catalogue number.
As Ambivalent, Kevin McHugh’s first big break came through Hawtin as well, with McHugh co-producing the Plastikman show back in 2004. Since then, McHugh’s take on minimal has resulted in the track Rumours and his Brooklyn Weekdays collaboration with Alexi Delano.
