It’s a battle of the bands with a difference. Budding musicians won’t even need to get out of their pyjamas for the Red Bull Bedroom Jam. As the title suggests, the premise is that unsigned bands from the UK and Ireland can upload videos of themselves jamming in the comfort of their own bedroom, garage or mum’s sitting room.
A chart on the official website will register the most popular home-made videos – as voted for by the public – and the top 15 acts will then be filmed professionally, performing live in their homes. The competition will eventually be whittled down to eight finalists, who will then be dragged out of their homes and on to stages at festivals (including Download and T in the Park) this summer. The overall winner will be decided by a panel of industry figures including Live Nation's vice president of music Andy Copping.
But what's in it for non-musically-inclined punters? You'll be able to laugh at each band's dodgy curtains and carpet, and judge them. On their musical merit, of course. Ahem. redbullbedroomjam.com
