If you’re a bloke with an interest in nu-prog-rock, conspiracy theories, spectacular stage sets and lengthy guitar solos, there’s always Muse at the O2 tomorrow. However, if your tastes veer towards a wider range of musical delights, then this coming week provides more than the usual options.
First off is the much-touted Gabby Young (above), performing tonight at the second birthday party of Dublin venue The Grand Social. Tomorrow sees the highly rated UK singer-songwriter Lucy Rose visit Belfast; the Godmother of Gospel, Mavis Staples touch down in Dublin; one of Ireland’s best singer-songwriters, Gemma Hayes, in Naul, Co Dublin; and one of Ireland’s best up-and-coming singer-songwriters, Róisín O in Galway.
Monday sees two disparate women perform in two very different Dublin venues: Nicki Minaj, over-rated, at the O2; and Jessie Ware, sublime, at the Sugar Club. The final lay-dee gig of the week sees Ladyhawke lay it down in Dublin town on Tuesday.
