Twisted Pepper, Dublin Tonight 10pm €12/€10 01-8734800
Cooly G’s Playin’ Me was one of last year’s crop of albums that got away. Merissa Campbell is a vocalist and producer with some serious UK funky credentials under her belt thanks to tracks such as Narst. Playin’ Me was a beautifully pitched document of inner-city romance, soul and quiet domestic dramas. Campbell’s languid, lovelorn, hazy vocals narrated these tales against a rich, multi- coloured palette of sounds, from dubby house to r’n’b.
Aside from a live set from Campbell, tonight’s Mudathon also features Zero T (Shogun), Script (CIA), Nicky Fury, Danny Wong, MC Steo, Boogie An Domhain with DJ Baz and Bitch Please. JIM CARROLL
