It's twin cheeks as the boys answer BRIAN BOYD's indie quiz
So you’re up for The Ticketindie challenge?
Indie music – is that all playing guitars and looking sad?
You’ve got it in one.
We don’t have any indie albums, we’re more r’n’b and pop and Michael Jackson. But we know indie is where you start off in your garage and then gain respect and . . . what’s it called . . . street credibility. But a lot of it is image, isn’t it?
Would you have been able to hack it at Oxegen?
We were supposed to play. We had our heart set on it. [John – or is it Edward?] tore a ligament in his leg at a gig last week and the pair had to cancel their set] We’d do anything, we’re not fazed by anybody. There were all these Facebook campaigns to get Jedward to play Oxegen, so much hype about it – we would have put on a great show. You look at these bands and they just come out and stand there. We run around and put on a real show. We’ve even stage-dived.
Which of the Oxegen headliners do you know?
All of them. Jay-Z is a big fan of ours. He talks about us in interviews. The Stereophonics are big fans – there’s this girl who works for MTV and she kept asking us for our autographs. Her boyfriend is Kelly Jones and she said he loves us – the autograph was for him. We’ve met Florence a good few times – she asked for our autograph too. Kasabian love us – we met them with the Mighty Boosh on a plane. Is Calvin Harris playing? He rang us to apologise after interrupting our X-Factor performance but we didn’t know he was Scottish so we hung up. We kept telling people there was a Scottish man ringing us up to apologise, but we didn’t know what it was about. Then someone told us Calvin Harris was Scottish. We never knew that.
Do you know Arcade Fire?
Eh, we think so. We’re not sure. Were they ever on the X-Factor? That’s how we met Paul McCartney. He came down the corridor after us when he was on. We talked for 30 minutes. He got his phone and rang his daughter and we had to talk to his daughter. Then he rang his granddaughter and we had to talk to her too. And some other members of his family – or maybe it was just his friends. Arcade Fire? Hmmm. Are they like Meatloaf? We like Meatloaf.
Ready for the questions?
Fire ahead.
Name a Nirvana album: Wonderwall.
Name the guitarist in The Smiths:Don't know – oh wait, is it that guy Morrissey?
Do you want more questions?
Not really. We like U2 – are they indie? We went out to Bono’s house once and signed our name on his gate. Then we went and did the same in Enya’s house. I really think we should be playing Oxegen – we would have crowd surfed and everything.
For the sake of clarity (and because they talk over each other all the time) Jedward have been amalgamated
Jedward won’t be at Oxegen but you can catch them at HMV, Dundrum on Friday, July 16th when they will be signing copies of their debut album Planet Jedward which goes on release the same day.
