Mike Huckaby has long played an important role in Detroit techno's many twists and turns. Be it his time behind the counter at the Motor City's Record Time store to a long string of productions and remixes that began back in the mid-1990s with Deep Transportation, Huckaby has been one of the sound's often unsung heroes, providing a bridge between the original innovators and those forging ahead today.
As shown by his most recent release, a mix-album for Berlin techno powerhouse Tresor’s 20th anniversary, Huckaby is a master at taking the listener on a trip to primetime dancefloor nirvana. Meanwhile, his work as a teacher at Detroit’s Youthville project has him introducing newbies to the possibilities of what creative folks can do with machines.
