Now here’s a guy who’s been around the block a few times, and lived up to a few rock ’n’ roll cliches. Eventually, Plant’s loin-girding years of “Hey, hey, mama, gonna make you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove” faded into the distance, replaced by what can only be described as days and nights of mature reflection. That Plant has (so far) removed himself from the Led Zep-to-reform debate is admirable; that he has aligned himself with several of Nashville’s premier talents is brilliant.

Plant's latest album, Band of Joy, is even better than 2007's wonderful Alison Krauss collaboration, Raising Sand; it rings true with voices of experience and authenticity, as well as containing some of the best slightly unhinged, cool-as-you-know-what alt.country/Americana you'll hear all year.

Will Plant also play some Led Zep tunes? Yes, but not as you know them.
