Hallelujah, Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss have brought the noise. Sleigh Bells make a thrilling, pulsating electrorock racket with tracks revved and raved up to bursting point. It’s a sound that is chippy, discordant, sassy, infectious, edgy and damn good fun. You’ll shout, you’ll scream, you’ll headbang with gay abandon.
Sleigh Bells first hit the headlines at last year’s CMJ Festival in New York. While both Miller and Krauss have previous form in the new bands steeplechase, none of their earlier combos had quite the same out-of-the-blocks wow factor as Sleigh Bells. In fairness to those other bands, though, none of them had blistering chemical explosions in the shape of tunes such as Infinity Guitars to write home about.
Though the duo have less than two dozen shows to their name to date (their first gig was last September), they’ve already received plenty of heavyweight attention from press, blogs and labels.
The former waiter (him) and schoolteacher (her) will be spending the first few weeks of this year recording a debut album. Sleigh Bells, it seems, are not just for Christmas.
