We Love, Bpitch Control **
To call the debut album from Italian duo Giorgia Angiuli and Piero Fragola a triumph of style over substance is probably a tad unfair. After all, We Love do know that icy, aloof, moody electronica alone will not butter any parsnips. When they do produce a song which matches their poise (such as the excellent Ice Lips) you can hear and imagine plenty of possibilities for their dancefloor-facing take on The xx.
The problem is that We Love simply don't have enough songs that good to bulk out the album. There's not another track here that works on the same level, or even hints at knowing how to reach those heights. Instead, it's one quasi- fashionable, boring, over- worked, under-stimulated sheet of wallpaper music after another. It might sound good in the lift of a chi-chi boutique hotel, but you'll have forgotten all about it by the time you reach your floor.
