Ryan Mcphun of Ruby Suns
What's on your rider?Irish whiskey, and lots of it! Plus hummus and veggies.
What would be on your fantasy rider?See above.
What's your pre-gig ritual/ routine?Whiskey! Some of us try to warm up our voices a bit too, but whiskey's good for that.
What's the best gig you've been to?Probably Björk at The Big Day out in 2008. She's one of my favourite artists and this show was so inspiring. I saw LCD Soundsystem right after and was so bored. That's how good she was.
And the worst?Any standard rock gig.
Who is the most famous person to have shown up at one of your gigs?Ha! Babu Bhatt from Seinfeld.
Most embarrassing on-stage moment? My voice cracks all the time. Years ago in another one of my bands, The Reduction Agents, I was really drunk playing the drums and we had some sort of meltdown on stage and I remember crying from behind my drum kit. I was going through a break-up at the time; it was horrendous. The lead singer threw my kick drum off the stage into the audience and smashed his beer glass on the wall. Pretty amazing, really.
Chatting between songs – good or bad?Good! Sometimes the jokes work really well and you get a laugh out of the audience, which makes us feel closer to them – or at least like we're providing some sort of entertainment.
Groupies. Would you?Now that I'm single, yes!
Do you like to meet and greet fans after the gig?I love it. This is what makes it worth it for us. If we can meet some people and hang out with them and have a good time and learn about the cities that we're in. Whether it's someone's house, or someone's favourite bar or hang spot. It's the best.
Any useful stage tips?Look positive and stay focused! I used to get real grumpy on stage if things weren't going good.
What's the worst thing ever thrown at you?We had our first g-string in LA a few nights ago. Didn't find out who it was from, though.
If you could be in any other band, which one?Ha! A famous band.
Who's invited to your aftershow party?Anyone who's keen.
