What's on your rider?A string quartet, alphabet spaghetti with only D, E, L, O, R, N, T and S in it, two Triumph motorcycles, one dark chocolate fountain, one white chocolate fountain, one mint chocolate fountain.
What would be on your fantasy rider?Just water biscuits and a towel, thanks.
What's your pre-gig ritual/ routine?High-energy/sugar foods. Using up the energy pacing, so then more high- energy foods. A huddle. Some arguing. Some dancing.
How do you get to the gig – limo, taxi, walking?We're in Barcelona right now and they've just outlawed bullfighting here, so tonight we will be riding one of the many bulls that have had to become taxi drivers.
What is your favourite venue?Our favourite this year was Café Zapata in Berlin. Huge metal dragon firing flames over the crowd during the gig. Dodgiest pool room ever, mind. Lovely promoters, though.
Most embarrassing on-stage moment?Kicked someone in the face when I was crowd-surfing once. Sorry again to that girl.
How many roadies does it take to change your lightbulbs (ie, how big is your entourage)?We have one roadie, the Gouj. We'd heard about him on the circuit. You don't hire him, he just calls to your door one day and offers to work with you if he likes you. We don't have a number for him or anything – when you do a gig, he's just there. I don't even know where he lives. We turned up at the venue at Barcelona, and he was at the door in his boots.
Any useful stage tips?Buy a tuner. Nobody wants to hear you figuring out if you're in tune with the bass player.
What's the worst thing ever thrown at you?The usual: pints, bras, abuse. It's okay – we usually throw ourselves at the crowd at some stage, so it evens out!
What's your best tour story?Our tour of the US in 2008 was pretty insane: flying through lightning storms in Texas, staying in a crack den in Toronto and hallucinating heavily onstage in New York. The tour where we get the motorbikes and the chocolate fountains will have plenty of stories, though.
