This 27-year-old singer-songwriter with a country/folk/rock bent created a splash earlier in 2014 with Kid Face, which was her first album to be released in Europe. These earlier efforts are now available in time for the Oklahoman's forthcoming European tour. (Crain plays Róisín Dubh in Galway and Whelan's in Dublin on July 23rd and 24th). The Confiscation (2008) is an EP of nervous promise and youthful lyrical pomposity. The more mature Songs in the Night (2009), recorded with The Midnight Shivers, has a warm shambolic intensity to it, showing off Crain's soulful voice in a band setting. She was back solo for You (Understood) (2010), which is both more ambitious and personal but uneven in its depiction of romantic turmoil. For those seduced by Kid Face, there's much to savour. samanthacrain.com
