Shuffle: Mongoose channel their inner Lynott; Dr Dre returns with his reputation intact

The week’s best clips, singles, downloads and audiostreams - Mongoose, Dr Dre ft. Kendrick Lamar, Fidlar and Doppler

Mongoose - Old Town
Mongoose recorded their take on the Phil Lynott classic for a recent charity album, and the accompanying video features the band in many of the same picturesque Dublin haunts – the Ha'penny Bridge, St Stephen's Green bandstand, Trinity College, The Long Hall pub – spliced through with (for some reason) about a million sepia- tinted shots of that laneway in Temple Bar that always smells like wee. Clearly, its a laneway with some special resonance for Mongoose.

Dr Dre ft. Kendrick Lamar - 2Nite
Sixteen years since Dr Dre's last record, Detox has overtaken even Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy as one of the most delayed album releases of all time. (Happily, in the interim, Dre has become a billionaire headphones salesman rather than a bloated, Brando-esque recluse.) So, in 2015, is the former NWA man still ahead of the game? No. But this newly leaked, by-the-numbers bedroom banger does show that his abilities behind the mixing desk are as sharp as ever.

Fidlar - 40oz On Repeat
Oh, God. Either you die a hero or you live long enough to witness the 1990s skate punk revival. Fidlar are an indie-signed band from California with obvious crossover potential. 40oz on Repeat is their cheeky homage to some very famous videos by the like of the Beastie Boys, Britney Spears, George Michael and Jamiroquai.

Doppler - The Truth Is Not Your Own
They've been called the "twentysomething Famous Five", "the band most likely to take the horse to France", and "members of Will and Kate's trusted inner circle." And that was just by me, while watching the video for The Truth Is Not Your Own (password is doppler2015). But Maynooth's Doppler also recently picked up a Clancy Brothers Festival song- writing award for this very song. A four-track EP, Laughil, is due out this year.
