Purveyors of indie-pop with an anthemic edge, Storyfold are unapologetically in pursuit of a commercial sound, their second album packed full of daytime radio-friendly, guitar-led melodies. Such an approach inevitably draws accusations of "safeness'. While it's true that few songs have distinguishing characteristics and many guitar riffs err on the side of cheesiness, tracks such as Dynamo and Michael will sate fans of The Killers in their glossy pomp. There is the odd lyrical clanger, as heard on Running out of Light's "Trying to put it right / but searching through the night". The End of Youth adapts a more serious tone, adding some much-needed obscurity to the heart-on-sleeve emotion. storyfold.net
