Community of Independents, the project launched by Dublin City TV and First Music Contact last year to document Ireland’s burgeoning independent music scene, is launching its first documentary with a gig next weekend. A Joyful Slog, which was filmed last year and features interviews with bands such as And So I Watch You From Afar, Adebisi Shank and The Jimmy Cake, details the development of the DIY music scene around Ireland. It will receive its public premiere at the Button Factory at 6pm on Sunday, May 6th, and the screening will be followed by a free gig featuring The Jimmy Cake, Crayonsmith, No Spill Blood, September Girls, Costello featuring GI and William Lee, and Nibiru. The six performances on the night will be also shot for the second season of the volunteer-based series, which will be broadcast on DCTV in late May.

Meanwhile, the Community of Independents project continues apace with numerous studio programmes being broadcast over the last six months, which are available to watch at iti.ms/KadldJ
