The May Bank Holiday weekend may traditionally be the time for a mass exodus to the countryside, but there are plenty of events taking place over the next few days to keep those left in the city entertained.

Tickets are still available for Kilkenny’s Rhythm Roots festival, which kicks off today. Josh Ritter, The Duke and the King and more will play in venues around the Marble City until Sunday, although Chris Smither has cancelled, due to illness.

The first Vantastival festival also begins today in Co Louth, while Belfast’s Cathedral Arts Quarter festival began yesterday and will run until next Sunday, featuring Echo the Bunnymen, Sly Robbie and The Divine Comedy.
