Trash Kit: spirited, screaming punk rock

Trash Kit sound rambunctious

Trash Kit sound rambunctious. Before you find out any details about the band, a listen to Cadetsor Famewill tell you much of what you need to know. This is gleeful, spirited, screaming punk rock which will happily beat on the brat with a baseball bat and then come back for more an hour later. A howling, hollering hoot, Trash Kit sound like fun.

They turn out to be that and more. Three face-painted London-based riot grrrls, Rachel Aggs, Rachel Horwood and Ros Murray (formerly of Electrelane), formed Trash Kit in early 2009. Inspired by The Slits, The Raincoats and (probably) Marnie Stern, they set to work.

Between then and now, while other acts sat around waiting for a callback from their stylist about those HM tops, Trash Kit cracked on with things. They’ve gained a reputation for exciting, boneshaking live shows, and have also put together a 17-track, 26-minute zinger of a self- titled debut album for the excellent Upset the Rhythm label. They’re a band whose trajectory is very much onwards and upwards.

What’s so infectious about Trash Kit is that they can match their top-drawer, gum-chewing swagger and nonchalant attitude with fabulous tunes.

Truly, you’d forgive anyone anything if they came up with a tune which gives it socks the way Cadets does. The plan for now is for them to continue doing what they’ve done for the past year.

This means more gigs supporting acts such as The Vivian Girs, No Age and Tune-Yards, as well as festival appointments at joints such as the Matt Groening- curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in the UK in May. Get the record, join the club.
