We tend to avoid Christmas albums like an outbreak of you-know-what but now and again, you just have to give in and let it go, let it go, let it go.
This RTÉ Radio One collection has the seasonal standards you know only too well (O Holy Night, being but one), but when the calibre of Irish acts amounts to the likes of Cathy Davey, Lisa Hannigan, Damien Dempsey, Mick Flannery, Declan O'Rourke, Dónal Lunny and Walking on Cars you know you have something of a heart-warming winner on your hands.
Interspersed with the songs (including Lisa Hannigan's sublime take on Joni Mitchell's River) are spoken word items (including actor Allen Leech reading Robert Frost's Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening). Expect seasonal crunch, not slush.
All profits go to Irish charity, AWARE.
