Walking on Cars - Everything this Way: hard work pays off with a catchy debut

Artist: Walking on Cars
Genre: Pop
Label: Virgin/EMI

Kerry band Walking on Cars have been beavering away for almost six years, and in fairness to their ambitions they have been sensible in waiting until now to release a debut album. Observers of the band will know that hard work comes easy to them, and so over the past three years it has been gratifying to see their incremental steps get larger and larger as their appeal broadens.

Everything This Way arrives at a point when commercial pop/rock has attained its own sustainable fanbase (in Ireland, at least), which is why Walking on Cars are well on the way to emulate the success of other Irish acts such as The Coronas and Kodaline. It's easy to see why – the songs here are so catchy you'll end up humming along to them whether you want to or not. Generic? Yes, for the most part, but album number two may sort that out. walkingoncars.com
