SHAREHOLDERS in New Ireland Holdings plc yesterday unanimously approved the sale of Irish National Insurance Company to Eagle Star Insurance Company at an extraordinary general meeting.

Irish National has about 4 per cent of the general insurance market, while Eagle Star has just over 6 per cent. Irish National employees about 250 people and there have been concerns expressed about the possibility of a significant level of redundancies after a takeover.
