THE LEVELLERS
Chaos Theory
Proper

There's a general rule of thumb in the Clayton-Lea household - any band that has in its ranks a didgeridoo player is going to get their marching orders. Barking out a short, sharp "no!" to the didgeridoo as an instrument of listening pleasure is something that The Levellers - a UK goodtime/ festival act that come across as a mixture of Hawkwind, a watered-down Clash and Irish fusion band Kíla - clearly cannot face. This value-for- money two-disc set features a full live show (at Reading's Hexagon Theatre last year) where the band prove how much of a draw they are on the live circuit. More energetic and enthusiastic than exciting, The Levellers know how to please the loyal fans. But you get the feeling that any act playing such a theatre is either on the way up or down. Extras are plentiful and include an acoustic gig, tour diary, band interviews and chinwags with the fans. There's bang for your buck, then, but only if you're a fan. www.levellers.co.uk - TONY CLAYTON-LEA

C'mon, what Ticket reader wouldn't relish a chance to enjoy the world's favourite superstar DJ at work and at play all around the globe? For those interested in such minutiae, Paul Oakenfold 24/7 will probably be a bigger hit this summer than the new series of Big Brother (the Oakie theme tune linking the two). For the rest of us, and especially those who view the producer and DJ as dull, uninspired and overrated, it will do little to change our opinion of the once influential Oakenfold. The DVD allows us to see him watching his fave football team Chelsea, burning up the air-miles as he jets from London to Los Angeles, and hanging out with his equally superstar mates (that would be Tiesto, Judge Jules, John Digweed, Timo Maas and co). Throughout, you get the feeling that he really, really needs a haircut. www.pauloakenfold.com - JIM CARROLL
