Try as we may, it proves impossible to stifle that yawn as a picture of yet another slip dress is sent to us

Try as we may, it proves impossible to stifle that yawn as a picture of yet another slip dress is sent to us. One of the great fashion cliches of the 1990s, the slip is a piece of lazy design (and lazy dressing) with which we are now thoroughly bored. After all, what is the slip but a piece of darted fabric hanging from two thin shoulder straps - this is hardly an example of cutting-edge style. It turns up in every shop and every collection and helps to explain why fashion at the end of this decade is in such doldrums. Even talking about it any more leaves us feeling bored . . .
