A letter to The Irish Times last week suggested one reason people continued to burn their skin was because sunscreen lotions were so expensive. Well, perhaps, but we suspect another explanation is that companies selling these products continue to promote the idea that tans are "beautiful" and even "safe", both words used in Clarins's current literature for its sunscreens (left). Unless you want your skin to look like that of a basted chicken, no tan is a safe tan.
