It wouldn't bother you what name was on a painting, would it? All you care about is whether you like it or not. That's good, because if you buy a postcard-sized painting at the Absolut Secret art exhibition at the RHA Gallagher Gallery from tomorrow, you won't get to find out who painted it . . . at least not until the exhibition is over a week later. You could have a work by Louis le Brocquy, Basil Blackshaw, Anne Madden, Alice Maher, Patrick Pye, John Behan, Dermot Seymour, John Shinnors, Charlie Tyrell, Sean McSweeney, or some other well-known painter, or you might have one by Kerri Ann, Whoopi Goldberg or Louis Walsh. Then again, you might have bought one by somebody nobody's ever heard of before.
The mitigating factor is that the paintings all cost £25 each and the proceeds go to the NCAD Fine Art Research and Development Fund, with a do- nation of £5 being made to Ciste Cholmcille, the Arts Council's benevolent fund.
