A PAIR of ebonised pier cabinets sold for £2,800 at the contents auction conducted by Town & Country last Sunday at Murphystown House in Sandyford, Dublin. A 19th century Sheraton-style mahogany corner cabinet made £2,400, a set of seven Irish Victorian spoon-back library chairs in mahogany sold for £1,900 a French bureau de dome with Sevres panels fetched £1,750 and a late Victorian mahogany writing desk realised £1,600. This last price was also made by an oil by Charles McAuley, entitled Moored Boats with Fisher Folk in Estuary, and another maritime picture, Mending the Nets by George Gillespie, fetched £1,850.
