A retrospective exhibition and auction of paintings by the Dublin artist, Patrick Leonard HRHA, who died late last year, takes place at Adam's on St Stephen's Green next Wednesday at 6pm.
Almost 200 works selected by Leonard's family from his studio in Rush in north county Dublin are included, encompassing 60 years of painting and sketching of everyday Dublin life.
This is the second auction this year of work by Leonard. In February Whyte's sold 84 paintings and sketches formerly owned by the Belfast collector and art dealer, George McClelland, at a special sale in the RDS. The February auction was one of the best attended in Whyte's history. Every lot was sold, many for multiples of the higher pre-sale estimates, and Whyte's realised over €300,000. Adam's is estimating between €300,000 and €400,000 for next week's sale, with the proceeds going to the Leonard estate. Local interest is again expected to be high and Leonard's widow, Doreen, and other members of his family will be attending.
The oils include Carnival Vans in the Square, Rush 1948 (€5,000-€8,000); The Coal Shed Door, Rush 1942 (€6,000-€8,000); Dollymount Strand, looking towards Bull Island (€5,000-€7,000); and Rain near the 11 Bus Stop for Sandford Park 1955 (€5,000-€7,000). Viewing is at Adam's salerooms tomorrow from 1pm to 5pm, and on Monday and Tuesday from 9.30am to 5pm.
