Half a dozen now seems to be the perfect number for sets of dining chairs, since they can comfortably fit into most contemporary homes. So presumably this particular group of Regency chairs, right, dating from around 1800 ought to find a buyer prepared to meet the expected figure of £2,200-£2,800.
These are just one such lot being offered by Mullen's of Laurel Park in Bray, Co Dublin on Monday, another similar one being a set of six Irish Georgian mahogany dining chairs which carry an estimate of £1,200-£1,600.
This auction contains quite a number of lots of Georgian furniture, such as a mahogany and satinwood-inlay bow-front table which has some fine decoration work (£4,000-£5,000) and a mahogany D-shaped card table which may possibly be Irish (£1,200-£1,600).
Items of a later date range from a William IV mahogany wardrobe with moulded cornice (£1,400-£1,800) to a 19th century mahogany bow-front sideboard with satinwood inlay (£3,000-£3,500) and a mahogany inlaid bedroom suite stamped by the James Hicks workrooms (£3,000-£4,000).
French workmanship is also on offer, thanks to lots such as a kingwood and ormolu-mounted vitrine cabinet from circa 1900 (£7,000-£8,000), a mahogany and marble console table with D-shaped top (£500-£600) and a kingwood commode (£1,400-£1,600).
Taking place in the company's rooms, this auction is due to begin at 6.30 p.m.
