Rough Trade Shops – Counter Culture 2008
Co-Op★★★★
If things were bad for record stores when the last instalment of
Counter Cultureappeared, they are even worse now. The Rough Trade shops are part of an ever decreasing clutch of independent outlets worldwide which continue to provide a home for out-there, interesting, fresh sounds and are happy to recommend the same to their customers. As always on this round-up of what has tingled the ears of those who work in the shops, you get a bunch of big indie hitters (Bon Iver, Department of Eagles, Fleet Foxes, Times New Viking), some interesting electronic names (Rustie, Yo Majesty, El Guincho) and clutch of lesser-known names who are worth checking out and who may be the stars of tomorrow (Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts, Salem, Indian Jewelry, Telepathe). Now that's what we call indie music.
