The organisers of the 14th Dublin Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, which runs over the bank holiday weekend (August 4th-7th), have pulled off a coup in securing for their opening night event Shortbus, one of the best-received films shown at Cannes this year.
The second film from Hedwig and the Angry Inch director John Cameron Mitchell, Shortbus is set among the habitués of a Manhattan underground "salon", which is a hive of multisexual activity for participants and voyeurs. The exuberant, no-sexual-hold-barred movie is so relaxed, candid and cheerful from the outset that we cease to be surprised by what it shows.
