A PAIR of 19th century English, embossed, silver plated wine coolers sold for £2,700 at last week's antiques auction held on the premises of John Ross & Co of Belfast. A baby grand piano by Challen went for £2,200 and a Bechstein boudoir grand piano made £2,100.

Ross's recent sale of Irish paintings saw a wax crayon drawing on paper of sailing boats at Belfast waterworks sell for £8,000 and a Percy French watercolour of London's parliament buildings go for £2,300. An oil by Charles McAuley, called Glens Woman, made £2,000, a Carey Clarke still life fetched £1,900 and two Maurice Wilks views sold for £1,900 and £1,800 respectively.
