"The dance is I do is called The Five Rhythms. It's completely spontaneous, no learned steps or moves. There's usually about twenty 20 or thirty30 of us, and the teacher describes "the five rhythms" - flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical and still - and what each is supposed to embody.

It's like a wave of movement. Flowing is the rhythm of femininity, and you express yourself in round shapes. Staccato is clear, decisive, the opposite to flowing in that it's more masculine, a bit like Michael Jackson or techno. Then you go into chaos, which is the crest of the wave. You let go, you go mad! Afro-Celt Sound System is good for this. Next comes lyrical, which is fun, light, playful, like Lord of the Dance. You end with stillness, which is like meditation.

My problem was that I was afraid of my creativity, but the dance helps me to accept it. Now I believe that I have this inner world and I can use all the resources that are there rather than suppress them."
