KYLIE AULDIST Just Say Tru Thoughts ****

There's more than one Australian called Kylie who knows how to hold a note. This one has a voice that will remind you of those dusty, soulful, vintage grooves from an age when female singers really did know all about toil and trouble. Auldist spent her youth belting out county and western songs in a no-horse outback town before joining forces with deep-funk band The Bamboos. Such an adventurous apprenticeship has been to Auldist's advantage, as Just Say demonstrates again and again. The songs are strong and robust, all the better to highlight Auldist's mighty voice, which is never afraid to push the emotion in some lines or toy with the momentum elsewhere.
