From the off, Soundcheck has added a splash of colour and a dash of vitality to the burgeoning club-in-a-pub scene in the capital. Hosted by journalist and TG4 Ceol Ar An Imeall presenter Una Mullally, who was aided and abetted initially by Sarah Fox and currently by photographer Fionn Kidney, Soundcheck has always provided something more than just a decent soundtrack to start the weekend. It’s the club’s mix of indie, electro, pop and what-have-you sounds along with free cupcakes, a ton of guest DJs (such as the regular all-grrrl Soundchick line-ups), film screenings and assorted extras which have pulled folks down South William Street. In a city where girl-fronted club nights continue for inexplicable reasons to be the exception rather than the rule (girls do go clubbing, right?), Soundcheck provides a break from the old routine. Those with Y chromosomes are, of course, also welcome.
