An impressive Victorian, mirror-backed side table that once stood in the hall of Pallas, home of the Earl of Westmeath in Loughrea, Co Galway, is to be auctioned at Mullen's on Monday, September 29th. The mahogany table is lavishly carved with coronets, and "W"s, while the central mirror is surmounted by the cresting of the Earl of Westmeath.

Four carved cockatrice stand guard at the base of this important piece, which may well be bought by a museum. David Allen of Mullen's expects it to make between £7,000 and £9,000.
