Straight off the wires on its way into the We'll Believe it When We See It file comes the news that Oliver Stone is considering directing a film on the life of Margaret Thatcher.
"Margaret Thatcher is an amazing woman and a good subject for a film. I'm thinking about Meryl Streep to play the Iron Lady," Stone is reported to have said.
Indeed, Streep's performance in The Manchurian Candidate reminded many critics of the Baroness. And Stone's Nixon, one of his least irritating pictures, showed that, despite his liberal sympathies, he has some understanding of the conservative mind-set. But, really, Oliver Stone's Thatcher? One can't help but be reminded of the upcoming parody Churchill: The Hollywood Years, in which American GI Winston Churchill saves the world from fascism. Reel News suggests Kevin Costner as Sir Keith Joseph.
