THE auction conducted by Mullen's of Laurel Park last Monday realised a total of £150,000, with the highest price of the evening being made by a statuary white mantelpiece with moulded breakfront shelf. This piece is originally from Straffan House, Co Kildare, and it sold to a private buyer for £5,600.

A Georgian mahogany bureau bookcase dating from circa 1780 went for £4 900 a pair of Donegal Killybegs carpets went past their estimate of £2,000-£3,000 to make £3,900 and a pair of 19th century rural scenes by J. Locker fetched £3,000, as did a pair of William IV mahogany bookcases. Other good prices: £2,8O0 for both a Victorian mahogany telescopic dining table and a set of eight William IV mahogany dining chairs, £2,500 for a pair of large 20th century gilt overmantle mirrors; £2,400 for an Irish mahogany sideboard from Cork 1829; and £2,200 for a French six-piece Kingwood bedroom suite circa 1880.
