Sunday: Little Green Cars, Mistletoe and Crime and more

Little Green Cars
Little Green Cars

INDIE ROCK
Little Green Cars
Vicar St, Dublin 7.30pm €22 vicarstreet.ie Also Mon, Galway; Wed, Kildare

This very fine Dublin band has been reasonably quiet this year, as they, no doubt, work away at perfecting the songs that will play a major part of their return to the coalface in 2015. Expect a batch of new material, then, as well as treats from last year's debut album, Absolute Zero. Special guests are Other Creatures.

JAZZ
Richie Buckley Quintet
JJ Smyths, Aungier St, 5pm, €10
jjsmyths.com
Dubliner Richie Buckley spends most of his time playing his saxophone in other people's groups – everyone from Van Morrison to Elvis Costello to Barry Manilow – and chances to hear him do his own thing on his own terms in his own home town are lamentably rare. Two chances come together this week, both in the upstairs room at JJ Smyth's, first on Sunday afternoon with his own group, and then on Thursday night with a re-formed Isotope. Either, or both will do thanks.

THEATRE
Mistletoe and Crime
Lyric Theatre. Sun mat 2.30pm £10-£22.50
lyrictheatre.co.uk
Marie Jones, one of the most popular writers to come out of Northern Ireland, returns to the Lyric with a seasonal comedy centred on two female police officers working the Christmas Eve shift in Belfast. One is an eager rookie, the other a seasoned veteran on her last beat, as though Jones has been required by genre law to follow a strict formula. But it's worth remembering that a crowd-pleasing comedy about the PSNI is a measure of a very changed Ulster.

MARKET
Christmas Cracker
Block B, Smithfield, Dublin, Friday: noon-7pm. Saturday/ Sunday: 11am-6pm

Today is the last chance to get yourself round the Dublin Flea and Block T's annual Christmas Cracker market. There are more than 100 stalls of local designers, art, craft, second-hand and vintage furniture from which to pluck the perfect present. Strike fear in their hearts by adopting an effective Cavan accent. Nobody knows how to drive down a price like those Border-county boyos.
