You could be forgiven for thinking that religious-themed theatre was suddenly everywhere – forgiveness being one of its strong suits. But rather than merrily spreading the word, like Joseph and his Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat or Godspell, Matthew Hurt's one-man play for Simon Callow (left), now revived to tour, takes a multi-angled view of Christ, delivering eye-witness accounts in contemporary speech. That allows Callow an unadorned and much more politicised reading of the "son of God", less miracle worker than distrusted revolutionary. Peter Crawley
