Ben Elton's West End hit Popcorn about the excesses of screen violence is due to come to the Grand Opera House, Belfast, next year, as is the hit production of Joe Orton's play, Loot. In fact, it's West End shows nearly all the way, with Jesus Christ Superstar (opening in January), Boogie Nights and Grease.
Interesting home-produced material will include Castleward Opera's production of La Traviata, accompanied, for the first time, by the Ulster Orchestra - Castleward came in for favourable mention in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland report on opera, which axed Opera Northern Ireland. The Hole in the Wall Gang, who have so little piety they actually laugh at The Troubles, are also scheduled to make an appearance.
