Irish producers Avril McRory of Silverapples Media and Paul Duane of Screenworks Film & TV have optioned feature and documentary rights to Gavin Bain’s autobiographical book before it is published this year.

They have commissioned Irvine Welsh and his screenwriting partner Dean Cavanagh to pen the screenplay. California Schemin'relates the true story of how Bain, a 27- year-old from Scotland, spent five years pretending to be a Californian rapper called Brains McLoud.
