Polygram is shipping over 1 million copies of Elton John's new single, the Princess Diana tribute Candle In The Wind 1997.

It should be in UK stores by tomorrow, exactly a week after Elton performed it at the funeral service, but Irish record shops probably won't receive copies until Monday.

All proceeds from the single (£3.99 for the CD and £1.99 for the cassette) will go to the newly-established Diana Princess Of Wales Memorial Fund. The track, with lyrics rewritten by Bernie Taupin, was recorded at Townhouse Studios in London last Saturday afternoon, with Beatles producer George Martin on the desk.

Elton was due to release a song called Something About The Way You Look Tonight, a taster for his new album, The Big Picture, but following the death of Diana, the release was modified to include Candle In The Wind 1997. The CD version features a third track, You Can Make History (Young Again), a hit for Elton in the US but previously unavailable here.
