Novelist, playwright, broadcaster, critic and Irish Times contributor, John Broderick, will be celebrated in his home town of Athlone at the end of next month. A weekend commemorating the 10th anniversary of his death will be held from May 28th to 30th. This prolific novelist joined the distinguished list of censored Irish writers in 1961 when his novel, The Pilgrimage, was banned by the Censorship of Publications Board. Athlone is making up for this posthumously, by naming a street after him.
