Of all his well-known songs - including Rat Trap, I Don't Like Mondays, The Great Song Of Indifference - Bob Geldof feels his Thinking Voyager 2 Type Things track, from the Vegetarians of Love album, is one of the best things he has ever written.

"That song was written about the time when Paula was still chasing me, before we got together," he says. "The Boomtown Rats were playing a gig in Paris and she had flown over to track me down. I remember hearing this pounding on the backstage door - and I just happened to be the one who opened it. Paula was standing there, a vision of beauty framed by the streetlight and this snow dropping behind her. And she was wearing a blue ballgown - it was all she had with her.

"I just thought at that moment: 'I give in.' I didn't want to bring her back to the band hotel so we found this cheap place (I remember having to pay extra to use the shower, which I refused point-blank to do). I remember we hired a cheap Volkswagen and drove out to Versailles and in the car park there, I was doing wheelies in the car for her. And that's what the song is about. I've still never played it live."
