ART
Kevin Cosgrove
Mother's Tankstation, Watling Street, Dublin. Thurs-Sat 12noon-6pm. Until Nov 1 Motherstanksstation.com
The third solo show by an exceptionally gifted young painter, Remake takes its title from one of the pictures it features: a view of a vintage Austin A35 in a workshop. Cosgrove is drawn to workshops, spaces where things are made, repaired, restored. He conveys their cluttered, comfortable order with cool, offhand virtuosity. They are also metaphors for the artistic process. A painstaking worker, his output is sparse, so make the most of this chance to see a group of pieces. AD
JAZZ
Van Morrison
Limerick Jazz Festival
University Concert Hall, Limerick, €84 (sold out), limerickjazzfestival.com The man they call the Man doesn't always get the recognition he deserves as a jazz musician, but anyone who riffs and scats like Morrison on Astral Weeks (it's almost Donal Dineen's favourite album, page 2) is doing what jazz musicians are prized for, and doing it beautifully. So kudos to drummer John Daly and the Limerick Jazz Festival, which continues all next weekend, for landing this high-profile appearance.
