The Waste Ground Party

Now, here’s an interesting development. The young writer Shaun Dunne is best known for his collaborations with Talking Shop Ensemble, which have synthesised documentary techniques with playful creation. His first play for the Abbey sounds more conventional, though: a drama about inner-city teenage friends considering leaving college and uniting local kids in a soccer league. Posing questions about the bonds of community, it might also bring some of Dunne’s adventurous spirit to new audiences. PC

Kinopolis: 9th Polish Film Festival @ IFI, Dublin

Between November 6th and 9th Kinopolis offers a programme of new Polish film and animation. Highlights include The Word, a teenage bunny boiler, and Jack Strong, based on the life of Ryszard Kuklinski, a Polish colonel who worked for the CIA during the Cold War. Documentarian Pawel Lozinski (above) will also be on hand to introduce a selection of his works. TB
