Thursday: Jack Charles v the Crown, Out of Thin Air, Our Few and Evil Days

THEATRE
Jack Charles v the Crown
Samuel Beckett Theatre, TCD 7.30pm
Jack Charles has been many things in his 71 years: a member of the Stolen Generation, separated from his Aboriginal family at the age of 4 months; an iconic actor; a heroin addict; a cat burglar; a jailbird; and a political activist. Charles's performance for Ilbijerri Theatre Company, scripted with playwright John Romeril, is a story of dispossession, imprisonment and a dogged refusal to give in.

ART
Out of Thin Air
The Copper House Gallery, St Kevin's Cottages, Synge St, Dublin Until Nov 7  thecopperhousegallery.com
The photographs in Out of Thin Air, an exhibition and also a book, document Daragh Muldowney's exploration of Greenland's icy coastal world. He sailed there last year aboard the Killary Flyer. Muldowney has reviously contrasted the landscapes of the Sahara and Iceland, and looked closely at Irish rock pools. While the Greenland ice is monumental and imposing, he points out, given current rates of climate change it may disappear entirely within 25 years.
