KILA
Live In Dublin/Kila Records
***
Kila have been freewheeling their way into the hearts and minds of dance, trad and world music fans for quite a while now, and this live album makes a valiant attempt to capture the raw energy of their live performance. Taken from no less than four live Dublin performances from 2002-2004, it's an odd gathering that falters for the want of more structure, wandering aimlessly from the opening highs of Her Royal Waggledy Toes to the languid funk of Bully's Acre until it finally runs out of steam on the primal Seo Mo Leaba. The momentum ebbs and flows, stuttering past the finishing post rather than triumphantly flattening it as they've done so often live. A disappointing snapshot of a band well used to leaving their endorphin-fuelled audience speechless. www.kila.ie
