There's an earthy tenor to this collection of musicians from a county long noted for its rich flute tradition. As much a snapshot of the present as a cap-doffing to the past (with a lovely recording of the late Packie Duignan's fiery reading of The Wandering Minstrel), this second volume ably captures the verve that defines Roscommon's appetite for flute tunes.

Tory Island/ The Duke of Leinster,James Carty's fluid and agile reel set, speaks volubly of his intimate acquaintance with the anatomy of both instrument and tunes. Inevitably, there are occasional potholes to be navigated in a recording with its roots so firmly planted at home, but ultimately this is a gathering of players and tunes who don their county colours with enthusiasm.
